Early Food and Housing in Corsair Cove
Stabilize stew, booze, and beds before your first ship leaves the pier.
Corsair Cove ends more launch-week colonies with an empty Galley than with a lost naval fight. You start with a cliff, a Campfire, and four Drifters — and the only number that can hard-end a run is Cohesion, which collapses when food, housing, and event choices fail together. This guide covers the early food-and-housing loop for the July 31, 2026 1.0 build so you reach your first pier without a mutiny warning.

Why food is the first deadline
Story Mode and Sandbox both hide the same trap: construction buttons unlock faster than Fetcher routes can feed new mouths. Every new Pirate Camp, advanced crew berth, or pier workforce multiplies Stew and Booze demand. Treat the first voyage as a construction deadline, not a sightseeing trip — if the home Galley is yellow or red, stay docked.
Hover resources in the top bar and compare production against consumption. More early collapses come from an unnoticed shortfall than from a Crown raid.
Campfire math that actually matters
The Campfire tops out at roughly 16 Stew per minute at base rate. That feeds a starter crew. It does not feed a second camp plus a shipyard workforce.
Three reliable ways to push past the ceiling:
- Fireside Feast (Notoriety unlock) raises Campfire output toward 31 stew per minute.
- Buccaneer’s Grill upgrades the Campfire to consume Pigs and pushes output near 35 when the pig chain is green.
- All Hands on Deck doubles workers on a building for about +50% output at +50% input. Use it only when surplus Drifters and upstream inputs exist — never as a substitute for a missing connection.
If pigs are already flowing, take the Grill. If not, spend one Notoriety point on Fireside Feast before expanding population. Details on spending points live in Deeds and journal and the Technology Compass guide.
Galley and Tavern must sit inside the camp that needs them
Stew produced on a cliff does nothing until a Galley distributes it inside the Pirate Camp radius that houses your pirates. The same rule applies to Booze via a Moonshine Still into a Tavern. Scenic placement across the island looks great in screenshots and starves the wrong camp.
Keep the Campfire close to the Galley and the Still close to the Tavern. If a second camp later needs the same goods, move surplus through a controlled Warehouse route with tight slot limits — do not stretch every producer across the whole map.
Housing is the real cost of a Drifter
Drifters build and haul. They cost little to maintain, but they still need Housing. Idle, unhoused Drifters create a deferred housing debt that shows up the moment you expand.
Assigned Pirates work specific jobs. They need Housing and upkeep goods (Stew, Booze, later Cassava Bread or Rum for advanced crews). Recruiting a full advanced crew onto an empty distributor is how ships leave port strong on paper and mutiny two events later — see Tier 2 ships unlock.
Tents versus Cabins
Early tents are fine on ledges inside camp radius. Once you hit three Compass points on a path, Cabins replace fields of tents and return flat land to industry. Pick the cabin whose inputs you already produce — a Salty Cabin that spends Planks and Rope you already make for ships is usually smarter than opening a fancy Coin chain only for housing cosmetics.
One resource feeds more than one chain
Stone splits into Stone Blocks and Charcoal. Hardwood feeds planks and later barrels. Account for overlap early: one Quarry or Woodcutter often supplies more than a single consumer. Finding that mid-game, when two lines pull from the same node, costs more rebuild time than planning a hub warehouse now.
Vertical space and food logistics
Flat pockets are scarce on Skull Rock and Ship Graveyard. Put housing on ledges, keep beach flats for piers and farms, and move finished goods downhill with ziplines once Notoriety unlocks them. Red route colors between Campfire and Galley are emergency tickets — fix the path before founding a second camp via Pirate camps.
Proof checklist before you expand
- Every occupied camp has food, drink, and housing with green routes.
- Planks accumulate in a warehouse, not only inside a remote sawmill.
- Production-versus-consumption for Stew stays non-negative at normal speed.
- You know which two Compass principles will fund your next ship.
- Cohesion is stable after recent story choices — see Cohesion and events.
If any proof fails, pause expansion. An idle Pier slot costs less than a starving second camp.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How much stew does the Campfire produce?
About 16 stew per minute at base. Fireside Feast (Notoriety) raises it near 31; Buccaneer's Grill with pigs approaches 35.
Do Drifters need housing?
Yes. Drifters still need Housing even though their upkeep is light. Assigned pirates also need Stew, Booze, and later advanced crew goods.
When should I build Cabins?
After you can spend three Compass points on a path that unlocks a cabin you can already afford. Cabins reclaim space that tents waste.
Why is my Galley idle with stew available?
Check camp assignment, pause state, and the highlighted Fetcher path. The Galley must sit inside the camp that needs the food, with a green connection.
Should I use All Hands on Deck on the Campfire?
Only when upstream inputs and spare Drifters exist. It raises output and input by about 50% and can starve other buildings if misused.
