Corsair Cove Skull Rock Opening Route (Story Mode)
From the first Stew loop to a Tier 2+ fleet without a mutiny warning.
This route is for a fresh Story Mode settlement on Skull Rock in Corsair Cove 1.0 (launched July 31, 2026). It takes the cove from the first food-and-plank loop to a second Pier and a useful Tier 2+ ship. As of early August 2026, no major post-launch balance patch had rewritten these fundamentals — treat live Pier tooltips as final if numbers drift.
Read alongside First hours in 1.0, Tier 2 ships unlock, Zipline logistics, and the Skull Rock map.
Five proof states before the first serious voyage
- Every occupied camp has food, drink, and housing on green routes.
- Planks accumulate in a Warehouse (Woodcutter ≈ 8 Hardwood/min feeding two Sawmills at 4 each).
- The Pier has a local supply plan for construction, repair, and future crew upkeep.
- The next two Principle points are named — a Notoriety Deed cannot buy an Empire unlock.
- The ship has a mission (smuggle, raid, chase, or board) before you spend on the hull.
If any proof fails, pause expansion. Idle builders cost less than a starving second camp.
Loop one — compact service core
Keep Campfire near Galley, Moonshine Still near Tavern, and Woodcutter near its Sawmills. Place housing on ledges so flat deposit land stays free. Do not overbuild storage: a Warehouse is a hub, not a museum. For transit goods, reduce slots to one; reserve space for repair stockpiles.
Use the route overlay constantly. Green passes. Yellow warns. Red fails under load. Rebuild wrong auto-connections instead of adding a third Woodcutter.
Unlock Zip Lines (Notoriety) and a Mast (Seafaring) as soon as Deeds allow — see Early food and housing and Deeds and journal.
Loop two — Compass pair for Tier 2+
Target three points in each of two Principles that share a Tier 2+ hull:
| Ship | Pair | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Goldseeker | Wealth + Notoriety | Boarding / treasure |
| Azimuth | Notoriety + Empire | Smuggling + flex combat |
| Steel Edge | Empire + Seafaring | Crown ports / defense |
| Huracan | Seafaring + Wealth | Chases / travel |
Buy Tier 1 painkillers first: Zip Line, Salvage Dock, Mast, Trading Post, Cabins. Avoid Aerial Lifts until Coin is plentiful.
Loop three — Skull Rock finances the second Pier
Early map actions should gather information and stockpiles, not force every Principle quest:
- Drifting Castaways — Drifters or Coin-for-Cohesion trades.
- Jetsam — basic stockpiles (sometimes Black Powder without an early Guano chain).
- Shipwreck — Salt and Coin for crew; only when you can replace losses.
Tier 1 event types teach which ship stat matters: Crown Port (Gun/Armor), Merchant (Speed), Smuggling (Manoeuvrability), Treasure Cave (Boarding). Keep the Landlubber on Tier 1 until your pair hits three and three.
Loop four — second camp, then the keel
Found a Pirate Camp that claims a Pier slot and useful deposits. Build local housing, Galley, and the Rum or Cassava Bread distributor before assigning advanced crew. Each Tier 2+ hull commonly wants on the order of 50 Planks + 50 Rope — the second Pier is part of that cost.
Feed Picaroons with Rum or Scallywags with Cassava Bread until the roster is full. Advanced crews roughly double core stats; Swabbies alone will disappoint.
Diagnosis table
| Failure signal | First check | Do not do yet |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer idle with input nearby | Pause, camp assign, connection, Fetcher path | Add another producer |
| One camp stocked, another starving | Warehouse direction and local Galley | Recruit more crew |
| Tier 2+ locked | Points in both Principles | Build unrelated Compass toys |
| Event stats too low | Advanced crew, upkeep, captain, hull role | Blame dice |
| Cohesion falling | New camp satisfaction and events | Open another radius |
| Crown interrupts voyages | Attack point, tower, Destroyer available | Send every ship away |
When the route is complete
The opening is done when the original camp builds without emergency reroutes, the pier camp sustains its advanced crew, and one Tier 2+ ship finishes its intended event and returns with repair resources. From there, follow the Principle quest that matches the fleet you built.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which island is this opening route for?
Story Mode on Skull Rock. The logistics principles transfer, but deposit layouts differ on Ship Graveyard and Devil's Basin.
What plank ratio should I use early?
About one Woodcutter (8 Hardwood/min) into two Sawmills (4 each) with Planks stored in a Warehouse.
When do I build the Tier 2+ ship?
After three Compass points in each required Principle, a fed Pier, Planks/Rope stockpiles, and an advanced crew upkeep chain.
Should I rush the second camp?
No. Found it for a Pier slot and deposits only after the first camp's food routes are green.
Is this route patched after launch?
It reflects the July 31, 2026 1.0 fundamentals. Always trust live building and Pier tooltips if a later patch adjusts numbers.
