Pirate Camps Guide

Pirate Camps are how Corsair Cove claims territory on vertical islands. Each camp has a limited radius for housing and services. Founding a second or third camp is an Empire-leaning power move — and the fastest way to kill Cohesion if you assign pirates before local Stew exists.

Use this guide with Early food and housing, Compass Empire builds, Zipline logistics, and the Skull Rock map.

What a camp actually does

A Pirate Camp defines:

  • Where tents and cabins can house pirates
  • Where Galley and Tavern services must reach
  • Which deposits and Pier slots your settlement can efficiently use
  • Which Crown attack points become relevant as you expand

Buildings outside radius may still stand, but pirates assigned to that camp will not be satisfied by a distant Galley on the wrong ledge.

Placement is a math problem

Before committing a camp foundation, check:

  1. Stone and Fresh Water nearby for early industry and farms.
  2. Pier slot access if your goal is a second shipyard.
  3. Overlap with existing camps — some overlap is fine; heavy double-coverage wastes the founding cost.
  4. Attack approaches the Crown can use once the fog peels back — plan a Gun Tower or a Destroyer-ready Pier.
  5. Fetcher paths — can Zip Lines or footpaths reach a warehouse hub without a red marathon?

Empty-looking land is not automatically good land. A clean circle with no deposits and no Pier wastes Empire points.

Founding order that keeps colonies alive

  1. Stabilize the first camp’s food, drink, and housing (green routes).
  2. Earn Empire (or your chosen pair) points via Deeds.
  3. Place the new camp for Pier + deposits.
  4. Build local Housing, Galley, and the upkeep distributor the future ship needs.
  5. Connect warehouses between camps with tight transit slots.
  6. Only then assign more pirates and advanced crews.

Skipping straight to step 6 is the classic launch-week fail described in Beginner mistakes.

Second camp for the second Pier

Tier 2+ fleets often need a second Pier so construction and repairs do not clog the starter beach. For Scallywag ships, prioritize Pier areas near Salt and fertile Cassava ground. For Picaroon / Rum ships, look for Sugar Cane fertility and Hardwood routes into Coopers — details in Tier 2 ships unlock.

Put one warehouse near the new Pier for Planks, Rope, and repairs. Keep crew upkeep on a separate controlled route so Rum or Cassava Bread does not drain the home Tavern dry.

Defense and Crown pressure

New camps expose new attack points. Options:

  • Gun Tower coverage on the approach
  • A Destroyer-leaning hull parked to intercept
  • Avoiding sending every ship to sea during a story assault window

Empire Deeds that reward raids also invite retaliation — budget Cohesion and ammo from Production chains.

Multi-camp logistics

  • Prefer mid-elevation warehouse hubs between camps.
  • Use Zip Lines downhill from cliff industry into shared hubs.
  • Limit warehouse request sizes for luxury transit goods.
  • Do not activate All Hands on Deck on every building in both camps at once.

When not to found another camp

  • Stew or Booze consumption is already negative.
  • Cohesion is falling after recent events.
  • You still lack three Compass points toward your next ship pair.
  • The only available circle overlaps heavily and adds no Pier or deposit.

Idle builder time is cheaper than a mutiny.

Claim land with a purpose. Every camp is a promise to feed whoever you assign there.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

When should I build a second Pirate Camp?

After the first camp has green food, drink, and housing, and you need a Pier slot or deposits the original radius cannot cover.

Do camps need their own Galley?

Yes in practice — services must reach pirates inside that camp's radius. Do not rely on a distant home Galley across a red route.

How much should camp radii overlap?

Avoid heavy overlap that wastes founding cost. Light overlap for shared warehouse access is fine.

Which Compass path helps camps most?

Empire rewards camp founding and Crown-port play. Pair it with Seafaring or Notoriety depending on your Tier 2+ ship goal.

Why did Cohesion drop after a new camp?

Assigned pirates without local housing or food. Build services before filling the roster.
