Corsair Cove Technology Compass Priorities

Ranked deed and compass spending for Wealth, Seafaring, Empire, and Notoriety in demo and early launch.

Last updated:

The Technology Compass is Corsair Cove’s non-linear progression system—four branches (Wealth, Seafaring, Empire, Notoriety) fed by Deeds completed from the journal. Unlike a linear tech tree, you choose which branch receives each point after earning it, and deeds themselves can belong to overlapping goals (population milestones, ship tiers, warehouse counts, tavern culture).

This tier list ranks investment priority for demo players targeting a stable Rum Ravine into first Moonlight sortie, then early Crown map clears. Pair with Wealth and Seafaring build guides for placement detail and ship / captain pages for combat payoffs.

Branch priority overview (demo)

PriorityBranchWhy first
1Wealth (early)Fixes storage, routes, tavern supply
2Seafaring (mid)Moonlight and naval viability
3Notoriety (parallel)Cohesion recovery after events
4Empire (late demo)Second camp only when camp one feeds itself

Full release shuffles weights when kraken hunts, fort sieges, and tier-three hulls demand deeper Seafaring and Empire simultaneously—notes below mark demo-safe versus launch extensions.

Wealth — S-tier early investments

Top deeds: Efficient galley routes, multiple warehouses, transport links to production clusters.

Top compass spends: Warehouse capacity, route efficiency nodes, Entertainers’ Guildhall when production cluster exists on demo layout flats.

Wealth is S-tier until your pier exports planks to shipyard without manual babysitting. Players who skip Wealth deeds report 100% satisfaction with idle moonshine—an economic failure Wealth fixes before any compass flair.

Stop overspending when second warehouse hub feeds pier and tavern; bank points for Seafaring if naval journal icons turn red.

Seafaring — S-tier mid investments

Top deeds: Build first custom ship (tutorial), upgrade to level-two hull, operate two ships (if journal tracks ownership even when demo cannot combine fleets on one mission).

Top compass spends: Moonlight prowler unlock chain, hull durability nodes, supply-at-sea upgrades extending voyage range on Steam feature list.

Seafaring becomes S-tier priority the moment map UI shows level-two naval targets. Landlubber retries waste real-time; Moonlight is cheaper in player hours than repeated combat losses.

Cross-branch note: Iron Fist destroyer unlocks often require Empire deeds—budget one Empire deed before hard gun scripts even if Empire branch is otherwise B-tier early.

Notoriety — A-tier parallel investments

Top deeds: Crew population thresholds, tavern satisfaction chains, entertainment structures boosting morale.

Top compass spends: Morale buildings, crew cap increases, ziplines or fast transit tied to pirate culture on store page.

Notoriety is A-tier alongside Wealth once refugee events hit cohesion. Taking only healthy refugees preserves cohesion but slows population; Notoriety investments recover morale without reckless welcome-all choices.

Do not prioritize Notoriety before tavern supply exists—empty taverns do not generate deed credit.

Empire — B-tier until stable

Top deeds: Third pirate camp, territorial expansion milestones.

Top compass spends: Camp upgrades, defensive structures, destroyer unlock bridges like Iron Fist prerequisites.

Empire is B-tier in demo because second camps multiply logistics failures. Preview players earn Empire credit for third camp while still struggling on one—defer unless journal hard gates progress.

When you expand, use Enter camp cycling and M map view from controls to monitor both hubs.

Deed examples and ordering

Preview footage lists concrete deed patterns:

  1. Population + stew — Notoriety points when feeding pirates efficiently.
  2. Three warehouses + galley routes — Wealth points; aligns with hub layout guide.
  3. Third pirate camp — Empire points; defer until S-tier Wealth complete.
  4. Level-two ship / second ship — Seafaring points; trigger Moonlight spend.
  5. Walk the Plank — Production deed improving sawmill; take when wood is bottleneck regardless of branch color.

Spend points immediately on compass nodes that unlock buildings you can place same session—unspent points do not generate interest while Crown timers advance.

S-tier single nodes (demo)

Node themeBranchReason

Guildhall productivityWealthMultiplies existing cluster
Cohesion recovery buildingNotorietyPost-event stability
Iron Fist gateEmpire/Seafaring crossRequired destroyer scripts

F-tier traps (demo)

  • Empire camp spam before feeding camp one
  • Notoriety tavern upgrades without moonshine connection
  • Late Seafaring tier-three chase when crew tier cannot staff Tempest-class hulls
  • Hoarding deed points while using Landlubber on level-two nodes

Full release reprioritization (July 31, 2026)

Launch content adds Crown questlines, kraken encounters, and hidden captains—Seafaring and Empire rise toward equal priority with Wealth once logistics templates from demo copy to new islands. Notoriety remains A-tier for massive crew counts Steam marketing cites (thousands of pirates).

Re-read this page launch week; Hooded Horse balance passes may move destroyer gates or guildhall costs.

Workflow tying compass to other systems

  1. Complete deed → open compass → spend on highest tier row available in priority branch.
  2. Place unlocked building using keybindings placement modifiers.
  3. Verify deed progress in journal before forcing off-meta branch.
  4. Assign captain matching new hull role before testing map node.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which Technology Compass branch should I invest in first?

Wealth early for warehouses and routes, then Seafaring for Moonlight before level-two naval targets.

Mostly yes until one camp is stable, except when Empire deeds gate destroyer unlocks like Iron Fist.

What are deeds in Corsair Cove?

Journal goals that grant compass points when completed—population, ships, warehouses, camps, and more.

Should Notoriety compete with Wealth?

Run Notoriety after tavern supply works; use it to recover cohesion from refugee and event choices.

When does compass priority change for full release?

When Seafaring tier-three hulls and Empire fort assaults become mandatory—rebalance after July 31, 2026 launch.
