Barbos Bay Walkthrough

Barbos Bay is the southeast early-game naval beat on the Seven Seas map — the skirmish that proves your Landlubber, Pier repairs, and turn-based cards work after the first Skull Rock fight. This walkthrough covers the Story Mode flow most captains hit in the opening hours: return to port, restock, sail southeast, defend, then delete Amara’s thin hull. Pair it with First ship and exploration, Naval combat, and Opening route Skull Rock.

Two post-launch patches touch this event:

  • Patch #1 (v1.1.1.241792) — rare stall when closing the journey summary after Barbos Bay; objective continue fix.
  • Patch #2 (v1.1.2.241844) — rare crash when entering the Barbos Bay event.

Update before you blame your deck.

Where Barbos Bay sits on the map

After Skull Rock’s first Discovery Point work, the nearby sea regions include dangerous fog (northwest), smuggler island (northeast), Barbos Bay (southeast), and jungle island (southwest). Fog returns if you leave a region idle too long — you may need to rediscover the waypoint before the event button returns. Only one ship can embark an event at a time; assigning a second vessel cancels the first mid-transit.

Prerequisites before you click Embark

  1. Shallow Pier finished and connected to a pirate camp — see Ship building.
  2. Landlubber constructed, preferably with a full early crew (community guides often target the full Swabbie berth count shown in the Pier UI).
  3. A captain assigned — early picks that favour health, gun damage, or supplies all work; swap later via captains tier list.
  4. Home cove green on food — do not empty the galley just to fill every berth.
  5. Game updated through Patch #2 if you previously crashed on event enter.

If a stuck Pier tutorial banner still covers the screen, clear it with the Build Your Pier stuck fix before you cannot click Repair.

Step-by-step — port, repair, sail

1. Return from the Skull Rock fight

After the battle at Skull Rock, select the Landlubber and send it back to the Pier. Do not chain into Barbos Bay at half health with empty supplies.

2. Expand tents if the objective asks

Story Mode often gates the next beat behind a few more tents for growing pirate population. Build them inside camp radius so cohesion and housing stay stable — Early food and housing.

3. Repair and restock at the Pier

  1. Select the Pier.
  2. Click Repair Ship — this spends construction-style materials to restore hull health and refill supplies.
  3. Manually replace dead crew in the Pier crew panel. Repairs do not auto-refill berths.
  4. Confirm supplies and captain before opening the world map.

Patch #2 corrected misleading crew upkeep numbers in the shipbuilding menu — glance at them when you top up sailors so you do not invent a famine.

4. Embark to Barbos Bay

Open the world map, select Barbos Bay southeast of Skull Rock, and send the Landlubber. Travel plays out in real time; you can keep managing the cove or speed the clock while the ship sails. When the captain barks arrival lines, enter the event.

Combat plan — defend, then delete 11 HP

Barbos Bay’s scripted Amara skirmish is more tutorial than endgame trial:

  1. First three turns — defend. Prefer cards and options that minimise damage taken. Amara telegraphs pressure; surviving the opening window matters more than greedy damage.
  2. After turn three — attack. Push damage until Amara’s ship hits 0 HP. Community walkthroughs note her hull sits around 11 HP in this encounter — short once you stop bracing.
  3. Watch supply spend and dice modifiers, but do not overthink perfect rolls. The fight teaches card reading more than min-max.
  4. Win the skirmish, close the journey summary when prompted, and continue the journal objective.

If the objective refuses to advance after the summary screen, you are on a pre-Patch #1 build or hit the rare stall Patch #1 already fixed — update, reload, and complete the next listed goal. You should not need to re-select the Pier forever.

After Barbos Bay — what unlocks next

Typical Story Mode follow-ups include gun tower defence prep, early gunpowder chains, and more Deeds that feed Compass points toward Tier 2 ships. Keep the Landlubber repaired; the next Crown-adjacent fights expect the same Pier discipline.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Where is Barbos Bay in Corsair Cove?

Southeast of Skull Rock on the early Seven Seas map. Reveal it from the nearby Discovery Point, then embark a crewed ship from your Pier.

How do I beat the Barbos Bay fight?

Repair and restock at the Pier first. Defend for the opening three turns, then attack until Amara’s ship — about 11 HP in this skirmish — reaches zero.

Why does Barbos Bay crash or stall?

Patch #2 fixed a rare crash on event enter. Patch #1 fixed a rare journey-summary stall afterward. Update to v1.1.2.241844 or newer.

Do repairs refill my crew automatically?

No. Repair Ship restores hull and supplies; you must manually assign replacement sailors in the Pier crew panel.

Can I send two ships to Barbos Bay?

Only one ship can embark an event at a time. Assigning another cancels the first ship’s current embark order.
